I am a writer.
My business is to find the right words to describe events, shape beliefs, articulate human
folly, sell ideas to either the Great Unwashed or the Perfumed Set. I sometimes write (or attempt
to write) fiction. Sometimes, I also write what can be described, after some rigorous
autopsy, as poetry. I’m not kidding. Although I don’t look it, I am actually an
aspiring literati. Believe me, I really do these things; it’s not always about the
money. The amazing thing is that national publications—prestigious institutions such
as the Philippines Free Press, Philippine Graphic, the Pen and Ink Literary Journal, the
Sunday Inquirer Magazine and even the UP Creative Writing Center’s Likhaan Anthology
(2001)—sometimes take pity and actually publish my work. Ha ha! I’m not kidding.
That’s really how magnanimous some people are. And the clincher: you can actually
read my work here. But in the real world, I can
accomplish most anything that has to do with writing—well, at least, the kind that
sells. Press releases, books or magazine features, copywriting, the works. Sometimes I
