For the P4-billion the Cambridge Village Project: Empire East and Daewoo Join Forces

(Write-up on Megaworld's Eastwood Cambridge Village project)

written by JB Lazarte

Foremost developer of successful suburban townships, Empire East strikes a major deal with a Korean
chaebol for an unprecedented breakthrough in the country’s property development industry: to masterplan and create a self-contained, complete mini-city called Cambridge Village.

Imagine a mini-city right at the Metro’s heartland—a well-rounded community of elegant residences enriched with all the essentials for good living and upscale amenities for leisure and relaxation—all at a price well within the middle-income family’s reach.

Such a remarkable vision for the Filipino family has been nudged a step closer to fruition as Korean construction giant Daewoo Engineering Corp. and leading township developer Empire East Land Holdings signed the agreement for a joint venture to build Cambridge Village, a P4-billion mass housing project in the bustling Pasig-Cainta area.

Having already partnered with Megaworld for the development of Olympic Heights in Eastwood City, Daewoo Engineering immediately saw the immense potential of Cambridge Village—both as a highly profitable business venture and a major catalyst in the further development of the Pasig-Cainta area. With a 40 percent stake, Daewoo Engineering will infuse into the project its considerable expertise as a leading general contractor in the Korean and international market, with overseas branches and offices in over 30 countries worldwide.

Formalized during President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s recent state visit to South Korea, the landmark deal heralds a new, exciting concept in affordable urban housing—one that opens the doors to a way of living in the city that comes ripe with rare levels of comfort and convenience.

Cambridge Village is yet another impressive fulfillment of Empire East’s vision for socio-economic renewal—a vision that has already transformed great tracts of once-idle lands in Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Gen. Trias, Cavite into the living, breathing townships of Laguna BelAir and Governor’s Hills. But Cambridge Village, located in 7.4 hectares of prime property in the bustling Pasig-Cainta area, represents Empire East’s big leap from the tried and tested idea of “suburban communities” to the groundbreaking concept of creating “urban mini-cities.”

A sprawling community of 50 residential buildings bearing the distinct charm and heartwarming character of French country houses, Cambridge Village features more than 4,000 two-level homes centered on a medley of amenities painstakingly chosen to answer every need and want. Here, the focal point of fun is its recreation area—a swimming pool amid superb scenery and fantastic resort-like appeal accented by an arched bridge and a miniature island. After a thrilling day of playing tennis in the sun, residents can either further sweat it out at the gym or spend the evening at the multi-purpose clubhouse’s own round of after-hours excitement: by playing a game of billiards, trying out one’s vocal chords at the karaoke bar or watching a box-office hit at the mini-theater.

Young parents will find the community’s own science-and-mathematics-oriented school and chapel just perfect for their kids’ character-building years. Residents can also get their daily needs easily at the neighborhood’s own commercial center, with McDonald’s, a supermarket, a drug store and other shops and services. Going to workplaces or business centers in Makati, Ortigas or Eastwood City is also very convenient, especially with Cambridge Village’s own shuttle bus service. On top of it, a professional maintenance and security team ensures the community is well secured and well cared for, effectively making discomfort and worry unheard of at Cambridge Village.
